kindness matters
I was on my way into the city recently, standing in the vestibule of the train, when this girl (probably 19 or 20) comes and stands in the same area. She was carrying a few bags and a suitcase. Shortly after she came to the spot she was standing in, a man, early 30's came and stood by her. He was talking to her, asking questions, so I assumed they knew each other. He asked her about the boroughs of NYC to which she didn't have any answers for him. He asked about her apartment, and she told him it was a one bedroom, but her boyfriend had room to store some of his things. This, and when she shot me a look of "what the fuck," is what made me realize she didn't know him. She kept mentioning this boyfriend of hers in their brief exchanges. As the train came into Penn Station the man asked if she needed any help with her bags. This guy did not get it. She politely said no, and we all left the train. I don't know what happened after that as we all parted ways, but kudos to this girl as she was very patient and kind to this gentleman that didn't have a clue. I like people like this, there should be more people like her. Tolerance is nice, and kindness matters.
